Haynsworth’s K-3 Program strives to teach students the basic building blocks of learning, both socially and academically. We encourage independence while learning to follow rules. Haynsworth is a warm, family-oriented environment that promotes personal responsibility, decision-making and emotional growth.
Our Learning Approach:
Young children learn through hands-on experiences with various types of stimuli. At Haynsworth, we like to tap into the five senses using music, art, manipulative and academic centers. Haynsworth fosters a sense of wonder and curiosity by allowing children to investigate and interact at their own speed and developmental level. We maintain an 11:1 student-to-teacher ratio.
Benchmarks for Readiness:
- Must be toilet trained
- Interacts and plays cooperatively with other children
- Participates in group activities
- Listens to and follows directions
- Helps with and takes responsibility for personal belongings
Language Art and Pre-Reading Development:
The K-3-curriculum is theme based. Each week has a theme with a new letter. To go along with our letter of the week, there will be a selection of the following: numbers, colors, shapes and positional concepts. The children learn through listening, worksheets and exploration of educational centers.
The K-3 Pre-Math program is designed to teach the basic fundamentals which consists of calendar time and manipulatives. Calendar time introduces children to number knowledge, time, patterns and sequencing. The children also learn to count and write numbers.
The children have opportunities for hands-on experiences with activities related to weather, seasons, the five senses and much more.
Entrance into our K-3 program is by evaluation and a satisfactory parent and child interview by the Director.
Teacher/Parent conferences are held at 18 weeks. Unscheduled conferences may be held upon request of the teacher or parents throughout the year.
K-3 hours are from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon. A Late Stay Program is available for before and after school.
